12 30 APRIL 2017

This year, the Malta International Music Festival is taking place during Easter time, when the whole Republic of Malta is pulsating with one of its most important festivities and lives its tradition with passion and devotion to its millenary roots and culture. So Malta will be twice worth a visit when the Malta International Music Festival puts the main emphasis on the piano, in 2017.

On this occasion, some of the most prestigious pianists of our times like Grigory Sokolov, Jan Lisiecki and Andrey Gugnin will finally have their Maltese debut. Spectacular concerts, masterclasses for the star-pianists of tomorrow with famous piano teachers like Dmitri Bashkirov, Yoheved Kaplinsky, Pavel Gililov, Lev Natochenny and Valery Piasetsky for, and a prestigious competition in four age categories will turn Malta into a cultural and musical event of international importance. The winners will be awarded with prizes up to € 20.000. Also, the festival supports contemporary composers. In 2017, Karl Fiorini, Alexey Shor and Joseph Vella from Malta will be composers in residence of the festival.

The Malta International Music Festival was founded in 2011 by the European Foundation for Support of Culture. Since then, the annually organized festival has established itself as one of the most important cultural events in Malta, combining exceptional concert events with masterclasses and competitions in all branches of instrumental music.

Mediterranean Conference Centre Valetta

REPUBLIC HALL

The 16th century building now the Mediterranean Conference Centre has long been one of Valletta's most remarkable landmarks. Located towards the tip of Valletta peninsula, the MCC stands for distinction with magnificent views across the Grand Harbour.

The sheer size and scale of the building coupled with its conversion into a modern conference centre in 1979 makes the MCC such an impressive architectural feat today. The sensitive and innovative restoration won the international acclaim with the coveted ‘Europa Nostra' Award for its successful blending of the fine old architecture with modern technology.

The Mediterranean Conference Centre is a rare example in the region of a heritage building functioning to the exacting demands of the 21st century. The Centre's long experience and reputation as a unique quality venue is confirmed by it's membership of the prestigious Historic Conference Centres of Europe (HCCE). The Mediterranean Conference Centre is one of Europe's largest conference centres within a historical setting.

The Centre boasts of impressive spaces, such as the main auditorium, Republic Hall, seating 1,400 in theatre style, the elegant and unique La Valette Hall that offers an imposing banqueting venue for up to 900, as well as a host of individually-styled smaller halls suited for receptions and more modest-scale conferences and seminars. In total, the Centre offers an area of over 7,000 square meters.

The Robert Samut Hall is a former Methodist church named Wesleyan Methodist Church located in Floriana, Malta. The current Neo-Gothic church was built between 1881 and 1883 on designs by architect Thomas Mullet Ellis. It was opened for worship on 18 March 1883. It was the first building in Malta to make use of electricity. The church was given to the government in the early 1970s. On 4 April 1975, the building was inaugurated as a centre for cultural activities and renamed Robert Samut Hall.[2] The hall houses an interesting 2 manual pneumatic Willis organ.
